Dr Michalis Kostapanos
Dr Kostapanos, PhD, DHP, MRCP, MFPM, FRSPH is a trained General Internal Medicine Physician working as a Consultant in Acute and General Internal Medicine in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals. His sub-speciality expertise is in Dyslipidaemias and Hypertension, currently contributing to the relevant sub-speciality clinic in Addenbrooke’s. He is a trained Clinical Trialist and MHRA-accredited Principal Investigator for First in Human (FIH) Phase 1 clinical trials, having completed the Diploma in Human Pharmacology (Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine). He has been working as a Senior Clinical Trials Physician (by secondment) in the GlaxoSmithKline Clinical Unit Cambridge in early phase clinical trials.
Through post-graduate training in Human Pharmacology Dr Kostapanos has developed a keen interest in drug development across a variety of therapeutic fields. His main academic and clinical research focus is on cardiovascular and metabolic pharmacology, including lipid-lowering, antihypertensive, anti-diabetic and anti-obesity drugs, particularly on their effects on the management and prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and its surrogates.
His research activity has been published in many international peer-reviewed journals. He has also been a referee and sits on the Editorial Board of a number of international peer-reviewed journals.
